When Amelia was two and Jadon was 3, I decided to join a local Bible study group that met in the mornings in Little Washington, NC. What I discovered in those weekly breaks from my motherhood routine was a deep sense of community attached to the Source of community – Jesus Christ. In-depth Bible study that included homework was foreign to me, but (oddly enough) it enlivened me. A few weeks in to my first study (Beth Moore’s To Live is Christ) I remember crying through an apology before the Lord in the privacy of my bedroom – “I’m sorry, Jesus. I have wasted so much time.”
I had been a Christian most of my life but had never experienced the depth of “Living Water” that came to me from personal Bible study. To think … I could have had so much more of Jesus so much sooner. In those moments of honest confession before the Lord, what I tasted was a beautiful revelation tinged with regret. To know Jesus is to love Jesus, more and more with every intentional drink from the well of his grace. The truth that I learned in those early days of purposeful study has stuck with me:
I can have more of Jesus if I want more of Jesus.
Twenty years down the road, and the chase is still on. With countless studies under my spiritual belt and rooted deeply within my heart, I am going to dig in again. This time, I’m asking Sandra Richter to lead the way with her words and thoughts on Deborah: Unlikely Heroes and the Book of Judges. I’d love for you to join me at the table – truly. There’s good stuff that happens when God’s people drink collectively from the well of Living Water. If you’ve never done formal Bible study before, all the more! COME. This study is as much for you as it is for seasoned veterans of the Word. You may not even know who Deborah is as it pertains to biblical history, but when we come to the end of our eight weeks together, not only will you know Deborah, you just might discover her spirit living within you. God’s Word is living and active, sharp and precise in its delivery. It’s meant to be a NOW word for you in this very NOW season of your life. So, consider this your invitation to join me (along with some really cool women).
We’ll gather on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 – 7:45 PM at the Benson Global Methodist Church (Fellowship Hall), beginning on August 27, 2025. If you need a copy of the book, please let me know (910) 544-8134. The cost is $15. Alternately, you can order your book directly through Amazon – follow this link. Bring your coffee and bring a friend. Child care will also be available for those who need it. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Nothing delights my heart more than linking arms with other Jesus seekers to discover the depths, wonders and joys of knowing him more fully.
Let’s go!
